A rod mill grinds brittle materials (ores, limestone) into uniform 0.1–5mm particles using steel rods for linear grinding action. Ideal for coarse grinding in mining and minerals, it minimizes over-crushing and offers 5–15% energy savings vs ball mills. Handles ≤25mm feed dry/wet but avoids sticky or ultra-hard materials.

How Does A Rod Mill Work
1.Material Feeding: Crushed ore (≤25mm) enters the rotating drum through a sealed inlet, mixed with steel rods (50–100mm diameter).
2. Cascading Action: The drum’s rotation lifts rods and ore, creating linear grinding contact for selective crushing (not impact), minimizing over-grinding.
3. Particle Refinement: Ore fractures along grain boundaries, producing uniform 0.1–5mm particles; discharge grate retains rods while allowing sized material to exit.
4. Size Control: Adjust rod length/diameter ratio or drum speed (60–75% critical speed) to tailor output gradation for downstream processes.
